Judge Danforth claims that witchcraft is an “invisible crime”, therefore there can’t be witnesses to defend the accused. In act 3, Judge danforth says “Therefore who may possibly be witness to it? The witch and the victim. None other. Now we cannot hope the witch will accuse herself; granted? Therefore we must rely on our victims and they do testify, the children certainly do testify”(Miller). Judge danforth believed the girls over the people who were accused. He has made it almost impossible for those to defend themselves. He would much rather keep his name over saving those that are not guilty. Another reason why judge danforth is to blame is that he has the most power in the trials, yet he does nothing to stop them. He took advantage of the responsibility that was given to him. He had seen the evidence of some of those who were accused, yet he refused to admit that the accused were innocent. When 91 farmers signed the deposition that stated that Elizabeth, Martha and Rebecca are good, he insisted on arresting all 91 farmers; “ “(Miller). Judge Danforth didn’t bother to listen to others thoughts on the trials. The power he had got to his head and didn’t handle the responsibility given to him
