Who Really Killed Romeo and Juliet Have you ever wondered who’s responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? Romeo and Juliet, written by Shakespeare, is about two-star crossed lovers. Their families have held grudges for decades. Romeo and Juliet kill themselves to be together. The three characters who are most responsible for the tragic ending of the play are Capulet, Tybalt, and Prince. Capulet was one character responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Capulet told Juliet she needed to marry Paris or he would disown her. In Act 3-Scene 5, Capulet says this to Juliet, “Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch... I tell thee what: get thee to church o’ thursday, or never after look me in the face.” Juliet didn’t want to marry Paris because she was already married to Romeo. Prince exiled Romeo for killing Tybalt. In Act 2-Scene 5 Prince says this, “And for that offense immediately we do exile him.” The Prince didn’t kill Romeo because Tybalt, who he killed, killed Mercutio first. Prince let's Romeo know if he is seen in town he will be killed. Romeo stays out of town but doesn’t know what Friar and Juliet planned. The Friar that Friar Lawrence sent never made it to Romeo with the letter because he visited his sick brother and got quarantined while trying to leave. This is why Prince manages Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. In conclusion the three characters who are most responsible for the tragic ending of the play are Capulet, Tybalt, and Prince. Capulet threatened that if Juliet didn’t marry Paris, he would disown her. Tybalt killed Mercutio, which then made Romeo kill Tybalt, resulting in his banishment. Prince banished Romeo, therefore he didn’t know what Juliet and Friar planned. Therefore a lesson we can learn from this play is don’t fall in love
