Harriet Tubman was born into slavery as Harriet Ross around the time of 1820 on the Eastern shore of Maryland (Taylor pg.8). She was one of nine children. Her, Her siblings and also Her mother was owned by Mary Pattison Brodess, and Ben Ross, who was owned by Anthony Thompson. Harriet was born into their ownership. She was a slave at a young age, She became a runaway slave.
