Although Louis Riel could be seen as a traitor to the Canadian government, he is a hero because his fight was meant to improve the Metis’ lives and it can be seen from his accomplishments: Red River Rebellion, Manitoba Act, and Northwest Rebellion. His heroism starts when he became a leader of the Metis in the Red River Rebellion. In 1868. Riel noticed that lands and traditional rights of the Metis were in threat. The Metis was frustrated since the HBC was selling Rupert’s land without consultation with them, and land surveyors kept ignoring the Metis’ rights.
