a.I plan to utilize whole-group instruction, small-group discussion, and class discussion as my instructional strategies during the lesson to enhance student learning. I will begin the lesson by instructing and modeling the whole group to provide the students with a foundation and to be prepared before the class discussion. During the class discussion, we will do another problem and graphic organizer together by having the students come up to the board to fill in the blanks or to solve the problem. I will check their understanding by asking them to give thumbs up or thumbs down whether they think the answer was correct or incorrect. The students sit on the carpet by cooperative grouping (academically high, medium low, medium high, low), so they will be able to work with different math capabilities to check their answer. If they got it wrong, their partner should be able to talk them through it to the right answer. After they have talked with their partner, they will try to do the checked two problems, 3 and 4. I am more familiar with if they understand it by having them do two problems to check understanding, rather than a whole page of problems wrong. If they get them right, they will move on to finish their learning goals by doing the next page correctly. If they finish quickly, they will be challenged to do enrichment through a more challenging group of problems, followed by a “Stretch Your Thinking” question.
