Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year (PETA). Because animals are living breathing creatures like us, it doesn't mean their body systems are anything like ours. Animals are a lot different than humans. You can’t expect the results of testing humans and animals to be the same. Animal testing has been a controversial topic for years, many will argue that it is inhumane or not beneficial to science. There are many pros and cons to animal testing, but in my opinion I believe it is wrong. Studies have shown that animal testing is inhumane, unsuccessful, and there is other alternatives that have been proven to be more effective. If studies show such a negative outcome from animal testing, it should …show more content…
“Animal testing is the use of animals in experiments and development projects usually to determine toxicity, dosing and efficacy of test drugs before proceeding to human clinical trials (Animal Testing).” Animals are tested on to help ensure the safety and effectiveness of anything from medications to our daily cosmetics before it hits consumer shelves. The animals being tested vary upon product, some may be bred specifically for testing others may be captured in the wild. Animals that are tested can range from small rodents, birds, fish, household pets, and even to farm animals. Animal testing happens all over the world but every country has different ways of regulating it because of the constant debate over is it right or …show more content…
Now it’s hard to find someone who wouldn’t agree on this, but they also say there is no other alternatives. This is very untrue. There are multiple testing methods that exist that can replace the need for animals. One highly common alternative is “organs-on-chips” which are human cells that mimic the structure and function of human cells and organ systems (Alternatives). These chips can be used instead of animal testing and have been proven to be more accurate than testing on animals. Another alternative that has been developed is computer modeling. Computer models can simulate human biology and show how certain diseases affect the body and help see how different drugs with react in a human body (Alternatives). There is also an option of micro dosing where humans can volunteer to take a very small dose of a drug and researchers can see how it behaves in the body. The last alternative methods we have is a Human-Patient Simulator, these simulators breath, bleed, convulse, talk, and even “die” (Alternatives). These simulators have been used to teach instead of using animals. There are even some high-tech simulators that mimic illnesses and injuries. “97% of medical schools across the U.S have completely replaced the use of animal laboratories in medical training with simulators like this
