Why Basketball Is Important To Me

Basketball and Me
There are many things people love to do in their lives. These talents or interests that they have affect their lives and shape who they are or who they become. There are multiple activities I enjoy in my life such as drawing, making origami, or listening to music. However, the main talent I have which I love to do, that has shaped who I am, is for the sport of basketball.
My entire life I’ve been involved with basketball. From practically birth to the present, basketball has been a part of me. At ten months old, my father would take me outside and stand me up and have me put a miniature ball through tiny hoop. Ever since then, I have grown up around basketball. At a young age, I played in the YMCA little league coached by my father up until eighth grade. Afterwards, I played for my middle school team and led them to an undefeated season. I’ve played with a club team ever since eighth grade and have played for the high school team for all four years.
For the past sixteen years, I have been involved with basketball. It is an everyday part of my life, and I have continued to grow and excel in it every single year. It has taught me so much and has aided me throughout life. It has trained me to never give up, to never let anything get in the way of what I want to accomplish in life. I know I can do anything I set out to do and nothing will stop me. It has helped me learn the importance of teamwork, both on the court and in society. Off of the court, I have gained confidence, compassion, and selflessness through it. Because of basketball, I have found out that hard work really does pay off.
