Many European countries were involved during World War I but the one that had the most affect into it being caused is Austria-Hungary. This country was part of the Triple Alliance, along with Germany and Italy. Many think it must have been Germany that started the war, but there is evidence that Austria-Hungary had been the reason behind it. Austria-Hungary had tried to expand and take over parts of the Balkans. This had led to the declaration of the war on Serbia a month before WWI and had caused the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. All these simple details had lead to the start of WWI.

To get back at them for annexing Bosnia and Herzegovina, they decided to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. The archduke travelled to Sarajevo to inspect the armed forces in the two provinces. When Serbia had heard that he was visiting, the Black Hand Gang created a plot to murder the archduke and his wife. The group was lead by 56 year old, Dragutin Dimitrijević and included a couple young men. Dimitrijević helped the boys with the plot even though he was in Belgrade, Serbia. The 19-year-old shooter, Gavrilo Princip, was dying from tuberculosis. His sibling had all died due to infancy sicknesses and his parents could not afford to buy food but due to Bosnia being annexed by Austria-Hungary, his parents had to pay taxes. Ever since he started understanding his family's situation, he had despised the archduke. When he was given the opportunity to kill him, he had taken it. After some missteps, he was able to shoot the royal couple while they traveled in their official job, killing Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie.
