The reason that influenced Benedict Arnold to switch sides was because Benedict felt like he was not being used to his full potential. Benedict thought he was a great general and was considered “the best general on either side of the conflict.” With successful actions, such as the capture of Fort Ticonderoga, he established his acts of bravery and cunning early in the war and he was then later promoted to Major General. In lieu of his success, he was surpassed over for the promotion by the Continental Congress, while other generals took credit for all of his great accomplishments.
