During the Holocaust, 6 million Jews were thrown into systematic camps designed to tear them apart. There were a handful of survivors and of these Jews, one of them is Elie Wiesel. Elie Wiesel is a survivor of the Holocaust and shares their experiences in his novel, Night. A major topic that Elie Wiesel talks of in Night is his transformation of his belief in God. Elie Wiesel before the Holocaust is praying on a regular basis and takes part in Kabbalah. However, as the Nazis advance and he is thrown into a concentration camp, he loses faith. In the novel Night, Elie Wiesel portrayed how Nazis performed acts of hatred towards the Jews that physically and spiritually ripped them apart, causing Jews to question their God and eventually lose faith. …show more content…
Despite being at a young age, Wiesel wished to his father for a master who could guide him in the studies of Kabbalah, as one was not typically mature enough to practice Kabbalah until they were 30. Young Wiesel tried to drive the desire of studying Kabbalah away; he failed to do so, later talking to Moshie the Beadle about his troubles. Moshie decided to take on the role and help Elie Wiesel in his study of Kabbalah. Moshie spoke of Kabbalah to Elie Wiesel for hours on end, this began his initiation. “Together we would read, over and over again, the same page of Zohar. Not to learn it by heart but to discover the very essence of divinity”(5). Elie Wiesel was a very mature and involved child, leading him to venture into Kabbalah
