Dominican Dictator Rafael Trujillo order to kill thousands of people just because the Haitians could not pronounce the word PEREJIL, because for them it was difficult to say it correctly. “A mistake that could cost their lives” (Nick Davis). The only thing Trujillo care about was to kill the Haitians, many people call this a systematic campaign of extermination. After the Haitians were killed they were thrown into the river called Massacre River, “it was the center of a killing field” (Ezra Fieser) It was called the Parsley Massacre because in some cases soldiers held a sprig of parsley and asked the victims to pronounce it in Spanish ( perejil). “Creole-speaking Haitians could be identified by their difficulty pronouncing the “R” in the word.
