Ancient Rome was a city that started in 753 BC and dissolved in 476 AD. Ancient Rome was known for its army, gladiators, trade, technology, jobs, and engineering. Ancient Rome was an advanced civilization and ahead of its time. Ancient Rome didn’t have the best army but they had the biggest army out of all the ancient cities. The Romans conquered many cities to increase the size of their army and to increase their empire. The Roman republic wanted an army that had many soldiers so it did not matter that they were not the best. They were the biggest. The army was also well trained, organized and equipped. The Roman soldier was a citizen who signed up for 20 years. At the end of his service he was given some money. There was a gladiator named Spartacus that served in the Rome army. Spartacus escaped in order to go home. He was tired of fighting for entertainment and risking his life. 3000 soldiers were sent to find him. When they found him they thought that they would wait until Spartacus and his slave army ran out off food. To their surprise, Spartacus escaped and killed most of the army and fled. Ancient Rome traded a lot with other cities by making roads to get to them. Rome got new clothes, food, got more warriors, and expanded their land. They didn’t just get all of their things from one city, they got it from several cities. Ancient Rome did different trades with different cities but they traded their things sometimes. Ancient Rome made some of the people citizen and even made them join the military. Cities were okay with giving Rome things because if they do then Rome will protect
