The Civil War that took place between 1861 and 1865 emanated from the differences on social and economic issues between the north and the south after the ratification of the U.S. constitution in the year 1789. The main differences were in putting an end to slavery and the states’ rights. The enactment of the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth amendments and the South losing the war, the significant effects of the war entailed putting an end to slavery in the United States and the redefinition of America as a united country instead of a collection of states which act independently. Therefore, Lincoln’s effort and determination of preserving the Union resulted in the North winning the war. Another factor that provided the North with the advantage is that the North received support from freed slaves who became part of the Union’s army after the approval of the Emancipation Proclamation. The South tried to follow the same direction, but it was not successful. The North also received plenty of support from the world superior powers, but the South had no support, and hence the North having the highest potential of winning the war. The North was also more industrialized when compared to the South which mostly focused on agriculture. Also, the North had a stabilized government and hence a good structure of organizing the army and the people while the South had no government. The North also had well-connected railroad networks which facilitated the transport of supplies and other items required to support the soldiers during the war. In synopsis, with the advantages that the North had over the South, Lincoln was able to achieve his primary goal of preserving the Union and later put an end to slavery through the help of the
