Why Do Characters Make Bad Decisions

I read the novel “Icefire” by Chris D’lacey and the topic I’m going to write for this book is on bad decisions I believe the characters make. I’m choosing this topic for the reason that the characters make a lot of poor decisions, in my opinion. Although bad and good decisions don’t really exist in books, I know that the characters could make better ones. The average decisions I’m going to point out, mostly has to do with the way the characters acted and what they did wrong. The first area in the book I’m going to note is on page 22, when David shook the talisman and found out about the name Lorel while being assigned an essay proving whether dragons exist or not. When he shook the talisman, Gadzooks appeared in his head. “Gadzooks, as usual, ignored the slight and quickly scribbled a word on his pad. Lorel” (D’lacey 22). The reason I believe that shaking the talisman is a mistake is for the fact that this is what started the chaos in the book. What he should have done, in my opinion, was to refuse …show more content…
She just blabs about Gaia the Earth goddess, white hedgehogs, Lorel, etc. and she doesn’t even know what she’s doing when she says these things. David gets more confused and involved into a world where he doesn’t even want to be in and he’s starting to think that everybody is going crazy. It just causes some bad confusion with other characters. The sixth mistake I’m going to identify is on page 124, where David drags Bonnington the cat out from under the bed. Bonnington then jumps into a packing bag and David tries to get him out, but the cat just hisses at him. Then David wonders why Bonnington is hissing. Well, he just dragged him out from under the bed. I would give David a bit more common sense in this little part because carrying cats like babies is a bad idea in general.
