Why Do Children Learn To Read?

I did not learn to read properly until I was seven years old. In Iceland, that is a year later than most children learn to read. The problem was not that I did not have the ability to learn to read, I just did not have the desire to learn how to. When I finally learned to read I nearly only read comic books called Donald Duck. I was subscribed for the books, and got it once a week. I finally gave in to my teacher and started reading actual books when I was turning eight years old. My first real book I read was Harry potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I saw the first Harry Potter movie many times and it was one of my favorite. On Harry Potters eleventh birthday a half-giant named Hagrid comes and tells him the truth behind his parent’s death and his scar on his forehead. In the scene where Hagrid comes and picks up Harry, one of the most famous quotes in the Harry Potter series is said, “You are a wizard Harry.” Harry learns that his dead parents were actually two powerful wizards and that he himself is a wizard also. His parents were killed by an evil wizard, named Voldemort, or the dark Lord. He goes to Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards, where he is picked into the house of Gryffindor. The four houses of Hogwarts are; Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. He gets to know many new people there whom will eventually become his best friends. On the train to Hogwarts he sits by coincidence with two people that know more about him than himself, they become his closest friends, their names are Ron Wesley and Hermione Granger. Harry learns how to fly a magic broom, which are used to compete in Quidditch, a wizard sport.
