Guns have become a huge part in our society and recent events have made them a popular topic in the presidential debate and even in people’s minds. Guns have become too dangerous for our society and people are getting shot on a daily basis, whether it’s by a gang member or a toddler. I believe guns are too dangerous they are used daily to kill people or threaten humans. Kids are also getting their hands on them and hurting other people by accident which is sad. Finally, many criminals and even fugitives have been able to purchase a firearm legally due to the less in depth background checks.
My first reason guns are too dangerous is that a recent study found that you are now more likely to get killed by a gun than by a car accident. This is the first time in history that guns are more dangerous than cars. Also a 2015 study found that annual mass shootings have declined, but the amount of people killed by guns has risen, which means that these shootings have become more deadly. Nevertheless, Professor Fox who co-authored a book on killings says “when including situations where the shooter knows it’s victims the rate of annual mass shootings has actually risen slightly.”

A study by the Centers for disease control and prevention found that 13 out of 43 incidents in 2015 where a toddler found a gun were fatal. Also toddlers shot themselves or others by accident on a weekly basis in 2015.
My final reason guns are too dangerous is that over 650,000 criminals, fugitives, convicts, addicts, illegal aliens and mentally ill tried to obtain a firearm from 1998 to 2014. It was also found that over 100,000 of the people under the same criteria as stated were able to obtain a firearm due to less in depth background checks.
