Destined to become “someone”, he joins the school’s football team. This puts him under the radar of Archie Costello, the Assigner of the Vigils, an underground organization that maintains order in the school from the shadows. Archie Costello’s job is to choose students, typically those with low self esteem, to complete assignments chosen by himself. These range from unscrewing every chair, desk, and whiteboard in a classroom to the verge of collapsing, to refusing to participate in the annual chocolate sale held as a fundraiser at the school.
