Marijuana is the most illicit drug used worldwide today, yet it’s used to benefit our well-being. Although, some consider marijuana a gateway drug, research has shown that it doesn’t open doors to addictive drugs such as heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine. So, why are people opposing the use of medical marijuana if it’s not a gateway drug? In many cases, medical marijuana is prescribed to treat people who experience nausea, poor appetite, excessive weight loss, muscle spasms, seizure disorders and Crohn’s disease. Studies have shown that medical marijuana improves lung capacity, due to long breath inhalations. No one yet has died due to smoking marijuana. The adolescence are mixing a depressant with stress reducer, which gives them the tendency to try drugs that give a really high, then give you a really low, such as cocaine. Not to mention, marijuana has established concerns with crime, destructiveness, and public health. According to Colorado’s data since 2013 marijuana violent crime rates have dropped down by 6.9%, and property crime has decreased by 11.1% within the first quarter of the year 2014. Also, if we regulated marijuana the way we regulate alcohol crime rates will also decrease. Although, alcohol is regulated it is still abused, we see many people getting killed by drunk drivers.
