Why Do Student Athletes Get Paid

When the NCAA was founded on 1906 the founders were stuck to the idea of not paying student athletes because they are students and everyone was fine with that. However things have changed now, the NCAA is making billions a year and athletes get none of that money. Coaches make millions a year because of their players, but how much do the players make? Zero. College athletes spend all their time with school and sports so they have absolutely no time to get a job and earn money. Since student athletes work hard and paying them will only make the sport more competitive it would be beneficial to pay all NCAA student athletes in colleges throughout the United States.

In the pros athletes get paid based on their skill level and how they play. If this applied to student athletes, they would just work harder in order to get better to increase their pay, making the sport more competitive. This will increase the NCAA’s viewers allowing them to reel in more money. Another reason the players will be more competitive is because teams will be more balanced out with elite players. Teams won't be stacked with elite players because they won't be able to afford many of them allowing lowered ranked teams a chance to win more. Overall making the sport more competitive will greatly benefit the NCAA, for this reason they should pay athletes. You may say that many student athletes are on scholarships and grants therefore they should not be paid. However, there are many thing scholarships don't cover. For example athletes who spend 90 hours a week training and studying will often find themselves starving well after the university dining facilities have closed. Many have no money to spend to buy themselves food. If they got paid this wouldn't be a
