Pass For Cash ? Money certainly does not buy good grades or good test scores. Paying students for their grades remains a popular idea in the United States, but continues to be a completely ridiculous idea due to the fact that it does not raise grades whatsoever. It makes the same sense as paying college athletes in that it eventually becomes all about the money. Money can definitely cause more problems than lead to benefits. Paying students for grades remains a horrible idea because it promotes greed and selfishness, it does not boost grades or test scores, and it hurts achievement in the long run. Students should not get paid for grades because it promotes greed and selfishness. Students getting paid for their grades drains the purpose of education, as it states in the article, "Isn't education cheapened when its sum value is a remote chance of a limo ride ?" (Flannery). It becomes less about the education and more about the money to the students that earn it. If every student starts getting paid for good grades and test scores, then the world becomes more greedy than it already persists to be. The students not earning the money may feel pressured to significantly improve their grades and in turn drop their grades and test scores instead. Giving money to the students with superior grades is meaningless because, "Simply paying kids for good grades or test scores doesn't actually give them any more skills." (Flannery). If the students that already excell at school are being rewarded, then the less fortunate students remain in the same boat that they were in at the start.
