Why High School Is Important To Me

School used to be easy and school used to be fun for me. I would drift along with easy A’s and easily made friends, and it was what seemed to be the time of life, but what I didn’t notice is that I wasn’t improving. (19) Over the years, I’ve had many grade levels and classes. Sometimes, they were successful and helped me out, but other times, they were difficult and stressful. Because eighth grade has taught me maturity, writing skills, and life lessons, eighth grade has been one of my most successful school years. To begin, when I first came to my last year of middle school, I was thinking about how my teachers seemed pretty strict, or at least compared to my old teachers, but their accountability made me realize how immature I was by not paying attention during class and not being prepared all the time. In previous years, I would sometimes lie to keep me out of trouble or sometimes stay quiet when I was confused because I was too scared to ask for help. Before this year, I never realized how incorrect my punctuation was or how unorganized my essays were. Not only has the writing skills helped me in Language Arts, but all my classes and at home, too. In addition, before I had Mrs. Moncada, I didn’t know how to format essays and short constructed responses; I didn’t know how to write out a letter or the envelope that would hold my thoughts inside. In History class, my SCR’s are way more organized, as well as notes I take in other classes. Even at home, I use apostrophes when writing things out, when I used to not as it seemed unnecessary. I write notes and journal entries with manner, all thanks to this
