In her essay “Why Homeless Hero Hugo Alfredo Tale-Yax Died on NYC Street” Courtney Hutchison discusses how many people treat others differently. Hutchison reminds us that the way people look affects our attitude towards them. According to Hutchison, many passerby left a homeless man bleed to death. He states that the passerby thought differently of him because he is homeless. Hutchison gives us three ways why people may or may not want to help others based on the looks of the other person.

In her first point, Hutchison argues that compassion is leaked to an attitude that help is too consuming. People don’t help homeless because they think that it would waste their time. Having a bad attitude is not safe for people and could lead to a horrible event. It is truly important to control the attitude, mostly for man. Hutchison gives an example where students from Princeton University did a social experiment to check people’s attitude and behaviour. The results were shocking, out of 100 people only 10 people helped and that would be 10% to be exact. Accordingly to other people they believe that society is not safe for anybody and they should aware of this by keeping some distances.
