Writing this short essay really makes me thankful for the time I spent at Stevenson. It reminds me of a scared freshman who struggled so hard to get to this point but even more it reminds me of how much that freshman changed. The freshman who was afraid of just about everything is about to become a sophomore. To a lot of people going from a freshman to a sophomore is not a big accomplishment but those people did not have the year I had or to be more specific, first semester. Every day of my first semester was a constant battle between living on campus, new classes, a new job, and paying for a year’s tuition on my own. I was always on the go and never stayed in one place for too long. Like a good solider, I faced my adversary head on taking damage from both sides day in and day out. I do not know if most college students would describe their freshman year this way but to me that is simply how things were. Everyone seemed different from me including my roommates. I admit I was not good at talking to my peers or finding people who had a common interest but I did not think it would be that hard to find a group of friends. I was not only an outsider but I was alone. The worse part of it all was that nobody understood how I felt. Nobody carried the same burdens and responsibilities as me. The same can be said for my classes. I was a freshman that already had most of his general credits before starting college but at the same time I could not start my required classes for my major due to a low math score.
