I was born in the Philippines to a mom who decided to flee to a country with higher living and health standards, and I grew up with aspirations to become a Dermatologist with a major in Human Biology. My aspirations changed when I learned the reason as to why my mother and I have not visited the Philippines since I we left to move to the US. I discovered that the struggle against disease has considerably progressed over the years, and health conditions in the Philippines lag behind countries in the West. Due to this, my mom had not wanted to return to ensure my health safety, and it is what prompted me to ensue a major in Global Studies with a track in Global Public Health.
This track and major introduces me to a policy-driven mindset in the healthcare field. I was introduced to policy-making in one of my prior jobs as a Cooperative Education Student for an Executive Administrative Assistant of Gloucester County Public Schools, and I greatly enjoyed the tasks I had to perform such providing input as to what should change when certain policies had to be updated to create a better social academic environment.
