The Umbrella of Social Work
The human service field is one of the most broad career choices that I am interested in. It is based solely on the objective of meeting human needs through applied knowledge. It focuses on prevention as well as remediation of problems along with improving the quality of life for said person. Anyone wanting to be in this field, knows it is definitely not for the money, but to provide a service for someone in need. I am wanting to become a social worker to make a difference in the lives of children specifically, but to also make a difference in people I come into contact with every day.
I am pursuing an education in the human service field, with a degree for pre-social work. This means I must have at least 64 hours of college to obtain my associates in science degree. Due to the fact that this field is so broad, I will bring attention to just a few aspects of the career choice. Firstly, there are two main types of social workers: “direct-service social workers, who help people solve and cope with problems in their everyday …show more content…
When I was younger, I was in and out of the police stations and halfway-homes with my smaller siblings because my birth dad would always get cops called on him by people in our neighborhood due to the drugs and violence. I always needed someone to have use their voice and opinion for us when we were little. Now I want to advocate for children in abusive home situations and put forth more effort than anyone ever gave for me. This isn't unusual, for people with a past to want to change, for people going through the same situations. Being a social worker means the job will never be boring. It's a diverse career and will teach you new things about yourself. Lastly, you get to advocate for human rights and social justices. This is a big part of history and the opportunity to change the perspective and lives of people will be in the hands of whoever takes
