Going into high school, I always knew that I wanted to be a two-sport athlete, but little did I know that I would end up being a three-sport athlete, even eventually ending up on the Varsity team for one of the sports. At the start of the school year, I joined cross-country and I had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends. Later they told me that I should join track because many of them were joining too. Track is a spring sport, but I had already had a sport in mind to play then: softball. After a few weeks of thinking, I decided that I would stick to my original plan and join softball instead.
I showed up to tryouts and was greeted by many familiar faces. Seeing so many people that I knew and that I was friends with helped to motivate me through the long and tiring two days of tryouts. After the second day, we would find out what teams we were on and who all our teammates were. Before the tryouts were done on Tuesday, Sarah, the varsity coach, pulled me to the side. She was talking to me about how I did really well, but she doesn’t want to limit my playing time, so she and the other coaches decided that I would mainly be on junior varsity (JV), but get pulled up to varsity if need be.

It was very difficult for me because I felt like I didn’t fit in on either team. After a couple of weeks, Sarah pulled me aside and asked me to make an important decision. She told me she felt that I would learn more on varsity and that my skills would be developed more, but she left the decision up to me. I told her I would think about it and let her know my decision after the weekend. I thought about it and made a pro-con list and then decided that I would make the move up to varsity. I got back on Monday, told Sarah, and from there on out, I was 100% on the varsity softball
