Thinking back to high school is a bit emotional. I had no desire to be a part of any school activities, whether it was joining clubs, trying out for sports, or attending football games. This time in my life was a struggle - it was when I became more understanding of my dad’s addiction and really learned what it did to my family. Believe it or not, my father is the reason I want to pursue my education; beating the odds, taking advantage of educational opportunities, and being able to myself and family. Inspiration or motivation can come from anywhere, turning something bad into something extraordinary is my inspiration. My father taught me everything not to do, and for that I am humbled.

First and foremost, most people have heard the words: “children tend to follow in their parents paths.” At least I know that I have and that alone is scary enough to beat the odds, statistic, or whatever is a threat that could possible hold me back. So that I have seen it firsthand, my brother is now in the same path as my father. I believe with a college education it will most definitely keep me on the right path, and beat those odds.

I’m not saying I am doing this to be rich by any means, but being able to live comfortably is ideal. Since my dad had an addiction he only worked when he needed money to get his ”fix”. Basically, he left my mom to pay all the bills, and surviving on one income was brutal. My mother who did not complete college either was making close to a minimum wage paying job. Obtaining a degree in a high paid, demanding career will set me aside from the financial struggles my parents went
