Why Is Animal Testing Necessary

How would you like it if your pet was ripped from your grasp, and taken to a place where they would be treated like they meant nothing, only to be put into harsh tests? Animal testing does just that. Animal testing has resulted in some of the world’s most extraordinary medical breakthroughs. This is mainly why people see animal testing as something that is completely beneficial, and should stay legal. But I am here to show why animal testing is totally useless, and should be banned. I believe that animal testing is useless because the tests are not always successful and - in some scenarios - can not even get started, humans and animals are not compatible all of the time, and the animals in which the tests are conducted on are treated poorly. First of all, scientists force mice and rats to inhale toxic fumes as part of the many cruel testing methods (Animal Testing 101). Toxic fumes, they are called toxic because they are harmful to just about any living thing. Animals’ lives are on the line in these tests, but the doctors do not seem to care. In addition, doctors force-feed dogs pesticides (Animal Testing 101). Now, the definition of pesticide is, “a substance used for destroying insects or other organisms harmful to cultivated plants or to animals.” The definition directly says that pesticides are harmful to animals, but the fact of the matter is that doctors don’t seem to worry about their “test subjects.” They will do whatever they have to do in order to test on animals. Another example of the harsh procedures of animal testing is dripping dangerous chemicals into the sensitive eyes of rabbits (Animal Testing 101). Rabbits’ eyes are very sensitive, and dangerous chemicals can be extremely damaging to their eyes. Life-long disabilities could be a result of these chemicals.
