Civil disobedience is important to creating a functioning and fair society. Blind following of laws can create the opportunity for inequality to take hold. A violent reaction to a law you don’t like can lead to more abuse and disapproval among others in the community. While civil disobedience can cost money for a government being affected by it, it does more good than harm. The damage is can do is far outweighed by the good it has already done throughout history, even recently.
A good case to show how civil disobedience can help society advance is Rosa parks in the bus. Her act of breaking the law helped bind communities together to fight against oppression and pushed the civil rights movement forward. “Never be fearful of what you are doing when it is right” is a good description of why civil disobedience is important to any fair government. Rosa parks today is seen in only good light for the things she did, being known as the mother of the civil rights …show more content…
Laws cannot have exceptions; this would remove the point of having laws in the first place. The United states legal system is not compatible with civil disobedience. While some of these points are good, and have a place in discussion they do not outweigh the change that has occurred with the use of it. Civil disobedience has been tested by time and passed the test. The civil rights movement in its entirety owns it existence to this useful form of breaking the law. While civil disobedience does encourage breaking the law in certain situations it does have its place. It does not suggest that you are not still responsible for your actions and the consequences of breaking that law. This does not in any way devalue the law, but it can show if that law is wrong, oppressive, or dangerous to the people it
