Fate plays an important role in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, or at least the concept of fate. The job of fate in the book helps brings many of the twists that help aid the ending to this tragic story. With the guidance of fate Romeo was able to meet, or more so see, Juliet at the Capulet party. Fate also had a hand in getting Romeo to that party to be able to spot Juliet in the first place. It too had assisted in getting Romeo exiled from Verona, by making him be at the wrong place at the wrong time. That of course being the fight that was between Tybalt and Mercutio. Including as well when Friar John couldn’t deliver the letter to Romeo because the doors had sealed shut due to a disease that a guard knew was out there and didn’t wish to be brought to the city. Fate does portray a great deal of importance in Romeo and Juliet. This simple idea causes many circumstances to happen throughout the novel. One idea of fate is when Romeo and Juliet meet at the Capulet party when he was suppose to be there for Rosaline, but his eyes captured a glimpse of Juliet and he couldn’t go back to Rosaline. The death of Mercutio and Tybalt also has bits of fate in it, and also helps lead some more events of because of that fate of Romeo being there. Lastly, fate includes what happens with how the letter to Romeo doesn’t get delivered to him by Friar John, how the doors were closed tight, keeping the Friar and the letter inside Verona.
