Hester has indeed learned of her mistakes, Hester knows she has sinned and availed the very one who has sinned with her. Despite the punishment given to Hester, she continues to stand her ground. Imprisoned in an old beaten up prison building and forced to hang the scarlet letter upon her breast. Hester has lied to us, broken the word of God, and gone against her own. For these three reasons Hester should be banished from the community and the colony shall be cleared of her evil doings. The primary reason, why Hester should be banished from the colony is because she has lied and has told the governor straight in his face that she will not reveal her lover’s name. “This woman had brought shame upon us all” (Hawthorne 45). Hester has indeed brought shame to the colony. Years ago there was a sinner. His hair was black and his nails were stained in midnight colored coal. He wore dirty robes and only bathed twice a week. He stole from the mines caverns and never told anyone about it. He’d emerge after a good 30 minutes with stones of silver larger than a baseball.
