John Brown a Terrorist Have you ever been loved by many but hated by others? This describes John Brown, some say he was America’s first terrorist. Americans are divided some believe he was a terrorist and others believe he was a revolutionary. For he was a terrorist for three reasons: he was a murderer, he committed treason, and conspiracy to incite a slave uprising. His goal was to free slaves, a good cause, but his methods made him a terrorist. First reason John Brown was a murderer because he slaughtered people in cold blood. Brown and his “gang” killed five men along the Pottawatomie Creek in Kansas. The victims were pro-slavery even though they did not own any slaves themselves. Later, Brown and his men raided the U.S. Arsenals at Harpers Ferry were more innocent people got killed. He promoted violence for his cause to end slavery. Many innocent people lost their lives. Second reason John Brown committed treason. Even though he did not commit treason against the United States of America, it was treason against the Commonwealth of Virginia. John and his followers wanted the weapons located at the governmental arsenal in Harpers Ferry. They attacked the location, at first it seemed successful but finally Brown and his men were captured and brought to justice. Third reason John Brown conspired to incite a slave …show more content…
Murdering innocent people is not a good plan for any cause. Moreover, treason is a serious offense even though his intentions were good going against your government and stealing from your government, if caught, will always get you in trouble with the law. In Brown’s case it cost him his life. Besides, trying to get slaves to revolt was not a popular idea. He did not have the support he needed from them.
