The Importance of Music in Schools It is important for schools to keep funding music programs because it benefits the kids in multiple ways. Many states are putting an end to their music programs, because they feel that music is not a beneficial part of the curriculum and they are very mistaken. Multiple studies have shown that kids who are involved in their school's music department have higher SAT scores, attendance, and are more engaged and focused in class. For many kids music is their main source of inspiration and being able to think creatively can help kids build important problem solving skills. Having a music department is just as important as important as any of the sports teams, if not more. Because unlike sports teams that just focus on the physical aspect of things, band works on physical and mental training. That is why it is so important for schools to keep funding their music departments, because it benefits the kids in multiple ways. The band and choir kids are the soundtrack to high school, they perform at every pep rally, parade, and even cram up in the stands at football games to watch the excitement. Coming from a person who has played many different sports, I have never had a better experience than marching with the band and feeding off of everyone's energy. For the past 4 years band was the only thing that kept me in school and I am so thankful I had the privilege to be able to say I was a part of it.
