Why Is Reading Important To Me

Throughout my school years English has always been a subject that I have enjoyed. I would struggle with understanding and comprehending my work, and what my teachers would try to teach me. It was a difficult time for me emotionally, because it made me feel as if I had a type of learning disorder. Until one day my freshman year my English teacher, Mr. Dolezal, was explaining to me how reading will help improve my work in the classroom, comprehending, and my test scores. I did not like to read inside the classroom, so I did not bother to read outside of it either. I used to think that reading books was so boring, I could never get into what I read, and I always thought, "Why should I read a book when I could watch the movie?"

Which brings me back to why I love reading so much, it started to be my happy place. It took me to a place that made me forget about everything going on in my life. Reading has become a positive outlet for me especially when I just want to get away from the world. I pick up a book and I get lost in it for hours. I started to absolutely love reading so everything I was learning in my classes became more vivid.

Mrs. Miyasto, my 10th and 11th grade English teacher, has been so great to me. She made my favorite subject, and the subject that I struggled with fun and enjoyable. I knew that everything she was teaching me was going to help me in the long run, so I paid close attention to her. Even when I did not get something I always knew that I could go to her and she would explain it to me in a way that I would understand.
