I am a runner. For the past several years, running has been one of the most important parts of my life; it has been my passion. I love to race, but what I enjoy most about the sport is what it has taught me over the years. Running has taught me valuable lessons of ambition and adversity, which I've come to learn go hand-in-hand. It has shown me how valuable hard work truly is. Being a member of the cross country and track teams has helped me understand the importance of teamwork and how to work effectively on a team. I am deeply grateful for all of the lessons running has taught me because they now affect every part of my life. The first lesson I learned from running is to be ambitious, but this also led me to learn about adversity. As a competitor, I constantly set goals for myself. I'm often very ambitious with the goals that I set, so I regularly face some adversity. However, setbacks tend to motivate me more. As a result, I've been successful reaching my goals. An excellent example of this is my sophomore track season when my goal was to run a mile in under five minutes. I fell short numerous times but continued to work hard. Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of running is that nobody is a natural; working hard is essential for becoming successful. Since realizing this, I've applied the same lesson to every component of my life. One such area is my education. As a student, I've worked hard to truly understand what I'm learning. I study, I ask questions, and I spend time reviewing outside of the classroom so I may fully grasp what's being taught to me.
