Why Is Switzerland Neutral

During World War II over 125,000 people found refuge in the neutral country of Switzerland (Forman; Works). Switzerland has always been a neutral country because of their political beliefs; Switzerland was even able to stay neutral through the war because of their brilliant military tactics. Hitler was not a big fan of Switzerland and wanted to attack the neutral country, mostly because he did not like the fact that Switzerland was holding Jewish refugees (Fossdal, 226). In World War II, Switzerland was able to stay neutral, safe, and provide a safe haven for many people.

Approximately 100,000 crashed airmen and prisoners of war found safe haven in Switzerland (Works). Approximately 1,700 of these soldiers were Americans and crews of damaged B-17 and B-24 bombers who could not make it back to England or Italy (Works). In fact, as many as ten crashed aircrafts may have landed in a day in Switzerland during World War II (Works). The Swiss tried to help these soldiers return to their needed destinations, and provided a safe place to stay until they were able to return (Works). Switzerland provided a safe haven for many people around the world.
Throughout the war, Switzerland was able to remain neutral and provide a safe haven for people in need. Switzerland’s neutrality and safety led it to become a safe haven for thousands of people around the world. Jewish refugees and soldiers were able to stay safe in the neutral country. Switzerland’s neutrality kindness was not only beneficial to Switzerland, but also to the thousands of refugees who were provided a safe haven in the rough and cruel times of
