Why Plagiarism Is Bad

My definition of the word plagiarism is using other hard earned information and presenting it as your own or not properly citing where you get said information. Though I know and have been aware what it meant for most of my educational career, I don’t think that has prevented my from performing some acts of plagiarism in some shape of form. For me personally, when I’m researching for a research project or paper, even though I keep an organized bibliography of my source and where I get my information, my citing still get messed up. I think that’s because as I’m research I look and read so much articles or books that information just get jumbled up together, so when it’s actually time for me to write the actual paper I don’t know where I got the information or I would us a fact form a source they I ultimately decided not to use or isn’t cited in the bibliography. …show more content…
In school we learn about how it’s bad and that we shouldn’t do it, “ Don’t take others idea”, “ In college you will get expelled for committing this academic dishonesty”. But students are never really though how to prevent themselves from committing plagiarism, be it intentional or not. In elementary we started doing more research based project, we were never though the best way research, though it may vary. Research I think is a skill that I was informally taught throughout my 12 years of public education. And right now just when about to graduate highschool and go to college, I can firmally tell you if there was a standardized test about researching properly and keeping information and facts in order, I would not meet state standards. I not only blame myself but also my lack of education in that area. Students should be taught how to properly research and keep tabs on all information. I believe this is a good way to prevent plagiarism or at least lower the rate it
