“Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it” ― Sara Shepard. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, is a very controversial book in schools. It is one of the most banned books to this day due to language, sexual orientation and stealing, to name a few of them. However, this book is also praised as one of the most American books out there! The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should not be banned in the Hebron High School 9th Grade Center because it shows how the American way was back in the day.
The book has been banned in many states, making it one of the most banned book in high schools today. The reason they ban these books is mainly due to the use of the word “nigger”. Some publishing firms have made copies of the book replacing the word “nigger” with the word “Slave”. However, many Americans think that the use of the word “slave” is even more offensive than the word “nigger”. The book was first challenged in 1884 because in the opinion of some schools, the book was“trash and suitable only for the slums.” However, the language in this book, along with stealing occur all the time today.
