Blaming Vaping Many know electronic cigarettes were produced to try to help addicted smokers eliminate their addiction, but instead they are doing the exact opposite for teens. Although they may be helping adults with their smoking problems, teens have become addicted to them. It is not surprising that teens have become addicted to this cigarette alternative because it is known to have the same amount of nicotine as a whole pack of cigarettes. Considering it contains such a vast amount of nicotine, one can easily recognize how severe the addiction could become for teens. Vaping has become a serious problem for teens. Teens have become addicted to vaping. An article says, “about 11% of high school seniors vaped nicotine in 2017; about a quarter of those seniors say they vape 20 or more times a month” (Board). It can reduce odors and possibly eliminate addiction. As many know, individuals who smoke cigarettes tend to have a nagging odor, but vaping does not have an odor. In fact, the chemicals within the vapor do not contain tar and therefore do not produce an odor (Pocock). A vast amount of people do not like the strong odor from cigarettes, so because vaping has no odor more people enjoy it. In comparison, vaping can also eliminate addiction. An article states, “because of the way that vaping devices are used, the oral and manual fixations that are associated with cigarettes are treated” (Pocock). The quote shows that because cigarettes and vapes are used in similar ways it can help to end one’s unhealthy, cigarette addiction. A source also states, “The good news about e-cigarettes — essentially battery-operated nicotine inhalers — is that they do not produce cancer-causing tobacco smoke and might help the nation’s nearly 38 million smokers quit” (Board). Although many of these points may be beneficial, the negatives should be taken more
