Why was Patrick Henry’s speech to the Virginia Convention so compelling? The colonies are at war with the British for their independence. There are remaining colonists who are not so sure about severing ties with the King, but Parliament. The colonists do not take it into consideration that the King is behind the British Army showing that he is in fact not a friend, but an enemy and one they need to fight for their freedom. Henry’s speech to the Virginia Convention was empowered by his use of Ethos to persuade the colonists with past events to discredit the King.
