The abolition of slavery is one of the most important events in history. Slavery was abolished in 1865 when the Thirteenth Amendment was signed. However, it was a long struggle for practically 100 years before that to end slavery. The struggle really was first noted all the way back during the time of the Revolutionary War. This also tied in directly with the Declaration of Independence. Abolition definitely existed in the times of the Revolutionary War. A good deal of the Founding Fathers, despite having slaves themselves, did see slavery as evil, and wanted it to stop. However, despite this, abolition was not mentioned in the Declaration of Independence. There were a few reasons abolition was left out of the Declaration of Independence.
