Why we lie? Is it fun to lie, do we lie because we like it, it makes us laugh or amuses us. No, end of the day the truth behind the lies we tell is because of the sheer fact that we are afraid. Afraid of getting into trouble, afraid of the consequences that we would be facing if we told the truth, afraid of what would happen to us if we came clean. And i’m not talking about little white lies, little lies you tell someone to make them feel better or to boost your self esteem. The lies i am going to be talking in this essay are the ones we tell our peers, teachers and even our bosses; the lies we so blatantly tell them just so we can get out of the icky sticky situation we would be in if we were honest and genuine.

In the novel a main character lies about his identity and who he is for almost all his life. He does this because of a deceitful tragic event that happened in the past; when he was in the war. So he carries on his life, getting older and older, still lying and being dishonest about who he really his. He does this and the lie catches onto him causing him to jump off a high verandah on his apartment floor, committing suicide. He lied to his kids, grandkids and friends and eventually he couldn't take it anymore. All the lies and falsehood got in his head, making him stressed and anxious and so he decided to take his own life.

In conclusion, lying can get us into even more trouble than we were hoping for in the first place. We lie and we lie and digging ourselves deeper and deeper into a hole where in the end we can’t get out of. We can hurt others, make them mad, angry in return we get nothing but feeling the guilt and shame of carrying a lie. So why lie in the first
