Have you ever thought about why there is so much time wasted taking tests? Well you have been thinking right. Some people think that tests are okay right now (we should keep our current tests) while others believe (like me) that we should change our current tests. I think we should change tests because they are long overdue on a change, have loads of cons, too much stress, too much test time, and we (the United States) are losing to several countries in education. I am about to provide you with evidence about why our standardized tests should change. First of all, standardized tests haven’t changed in over 100 years! Hard to believe, right? As Bob Sternberg says, “Standardized tests are IQ tests and haven’t changed for 100 years!”. The crazy thing is that the government, parents, and teachers all want less test time. But, it’s been 100 years and our test time has only gradually been getting higher. Now let me tell you something, if our medical field was the same for 100 years, I possibly wouldn’t be writing this right now. Also, if we learn the same stuff, we will never evolve into greater humans. By this evidence, I have probably got you wanting tests to have a change. Now when I say tons, I don’t mean thousands of pounds of cons, I mean that there is just a lot of tons. One of the cons is that standardized tests don’t improve student achievement. Also, they discriminate non English speakers and people with special needs. Back to the student achievement one, we need student achievement to grow as humans. Also, I thought this was a free country, so why are standardized tests discriminating against people who don’t speak English and/or people with special needs.
