Is Columbus Day actually celebrated? There are Columbus Day sales which are great; however, does anyone actually celebrate the day a terrible man founded our country. Christopher Columbus was a terrible man who had terrible morals. Columbus raped people, sold kids for sex, enslaved, tortured, stole riches, and he stole land from the natives. Americans should not celebrate the day a wanton man brought a dark cloud over the lives of thousands of natives. Everywhere Columbus traveled he brought destruction and hatred from him and his crew. Why would people like him to represent our country for all the wrong he did? Columbus Day should be banned as a holiday. What Columbus did was not right. Christopher Columbus was not the first to discover America, he just founded the great nation we know today. Most people do not even know when or what Columbus Day is. "Indigenous People Day" would be better than this horrid holiday. This would be the day people suffered for the terrible acts that Christopher Columbus committed. According to the article, "8 Reasons to Hate Columbus Day" it states, "The first human beings to "discover" America were the nomadic tribes..." Nobody celebrates Columbus Day because people do not care about celebrating a terrible man who founded America. Columbus brought diseases with him to the Americas which caused a numerous amount of deaths in America when he had first arrived. This event caused massive amounts of deaths. Columbus also brought weapons to kill and torture anyone they found in the Americas. When he had arrived he killed most of the population. Columbus would not accept resistance from anyone or else they would be killed immediately. Soon after Columbus took over many natives attempted suicide and about fifty-thousand actually committed
