As society becomes more and more advanced, medical research becomes more advanced, more people are aware that cigarettes are not only bad for you, but are basically a death sentence. So it's any wonder there are talks about smoking being banned in the workplace. It's being banned at restaurants, malls, bus stops, hotel balconies, etc. For it to be banned in the workplace as well is purely common sense. We imply the OHS (Occupational Health & Safety) standards across millions of job sites world wide with rules, regulations, etc, that are designed to keep employers and employees healthy and safe. So why not ban smoking? As we know, smoking kills. Smoking inside any public building is illegal, so there is no reason nor excuse for it to be allowed at a workplace. The same rules/laws should be applied every where, including all commercial/work vehicles. Smoking is a disgusting habit, with only negative effects and outcome for the smoker. They are fully aware of this, yet choose to smoke. Non smokers, are exactly that, they don't smoke. So there should be no reason as to why they suffer health issues at the hands of someone's passive smoke. Banning smoking inside, outside, from vehicles, door ways and windows should be implied in all workplaces. Smoking is banned on all hospital grounds in Queensland, so why is it not banned in all workplaces? People who already suffer illnesses such as chronic lung disease, asthma and allergies would struggle immensely with constant passive smoke in the workplace, which may, in turn, cause them to resign and move on depending on the severity of the
