Wiesel uses connotative language to demonstrate that dehumanization causes people to act like animals. For example, Eliezer states “There was a stampede. Dozens of starving men fought each other to the death for a few crumbs.”(Wiesel 73) This quotation demonstrates how people act when being dehumanized by acting like animals,treat each other like animals, and even kill like animals. For example the use of the word “stampede” this implies a herd of animals trampling anyone or anything in its path. In conclusion Wiesel’s use of connotative language does demonstrate the effects of dehumanization.
