The Wife of Bath is known to be arguably the first feminist figure in literature. A feminist is a women who want the same rights on political, social and economic status as men. However, the Wife of Bath did not want to be equal to men she wanted to have whatever she wanted and have complete control over whoever she wanted. So her ideas did not support the feminist sentiments through his writing of the Wife of Bath’s Prologue and story by showing the mental and emotional dominance over males. Chaucer shows this by the manipulation that the women have over the men, she wants to have sovereignty over men, and she also uses them for her own personal gains in wealth.

The Wife of Bath has been married on five different occasions. They were all for different reasons and she just wanted to fulfil her lustful life. Three out of her five husbands were only there because she wanted their money. The money was only to help her gain what she wanted and for her to purchase whatever she wants. The other two husband that she had abused her and mistreated her. Even then she was hoping that she would have been able to fix them in order to make herself feel better. It was to give her a sense of satisfaction and feeling that she could do it.

Overall the Wife of Bath was not a feminist. The feminist ideas and sentiments were not pushed through in either the story or the prologue. Feminist want to be equal to men and have the same rights as men however the Wife of Bath wanted to be superior to men. Throughout her story and prologue she just proved that she thought that women were superior to men because all the women were emotionally, and mentally better than the
