As more and more settlers and immigrants new to the United States slowly migrated west in hopes of finding new lands and opportunities to find success the frontier began to dwindle. Natural lands began to disappear, as wealthy businessmen continued to tap into the resources the nations lands have to offer. How humanity treats and divides nature has always been under debate and as these areas begin to diminish during the time Willa Cather was completing her novel she does an exceptional job of depicting nature and providing examples as to how man and nature have begun to coincide.
