Immigration has made America a melting pot of many cultures and people, this is why America is known as a nation full of diversity. The immigrants brought their culture to America which means their cultures get mixed and engrossed by many other people. William Bradford was born in England in 1590. While still a boy, Bradford was connected in the Protestant Reformation. He moved to Holland with other Puritans because of religious persecution. In 1620, Bradford regulated a journey in the Mayflower to the New World. Richard Rodriguez who had parents that were both Mexican immigrants, was born in San Francisco, California in 1944. In the historical novel, Of Plymouth Plantation, Bradford states, “Combine ourselves together into a Civil Body Politic” (Bradford 14). In this quote, Bradford's informs the readers that the Puritans should come together as a collective unit. Bradford influenced many people because the "Civil Body Politic" was the first form of representative democracy. This form of government did not exist anywhere in the world and would later lead to the drafting of the Constitution. Furthermore, Bradford asserts, “And here is to be noted a special providence of God, and a great mercy to this poor people, that here they got seed to plant them corn the next year” (Bradford 11). Due to this quote Bradford reveals that the providence of God is always with them. This changed the lives of the Puritans because they believed that they were God’s chosen people. They felt like they did not have to worry about anything but, they started worrying after many people started to die during the winter.
