William Faulkner was born to an old southern family on Sept. 25, 1897 in New Albany but grew up in Oxford, Mississippi. William attended Ole Miss in 1919 but dropped out in 1920, and went to the University of Mississippi. Faulkner also wanted to join the United States Army but was turned down due to his height and instead joined the British Royal Flying Corps.
